Atish Kumar Singh, originally from Bokaro Steel City, Jharkhand, is the founder of the ‘O Rama Dance Center’ in Ranchi. He has also established two academies in Bokaro.
Remembering his childhood, Atish shares that he developed a keen interest in cricket and received guidance from his father, eventually playing at the under-19 level. However, due to financial constraints, he couldn't participate in a crucial match for the Ranji Trophy, which left him disheartened. At this point, a friend suggested that he dance on a stage. Atish agreed and performed exceptionally well. Encouraged by his friend, he participated in a stage competition, where he secured the first position, won a trophy, and received Rs. 1000 as a prize. This experience shifted his focus from cricket to dance.
Atish, along with two of his friends, formed a dance team and used to practice in a railway quarter. Unfortunately, they lost access to their practice space, and one of their friends left the group to pursue hotel management. As a result, the group disbanded temporarily. However, they had to prepare for a reality show and, lacking a mirror, they improvised by practicing while observing their shadows on the wall. During this time, Atish developed an interest in joining the police force and began preparing for it. However, he couldn't clear the exams and gradually lost interest in preparing for the exam due to his age and family responsibilities. Dance then became his sole source of income.
Atish's breakthrough came when Dharmesh Sir, a renowned dancer, visited Bokaro for a program. Impressed by his team's performance, Dharmesh took notice of Atish and his group, known as O Rama Dance Group. They formed a good friendship with Dharmesh and worked with him for a while. Subsequently, they participated in ‘Dance Plus 6’. However, due to his teammates' work commitments in the Railways and the police department, the bonding within the group weakened, as they struggled to find time for practice.
When asked about his role models, Atish says he regards all the members of his group as his role models.
Reflecting on his mistakes, Atish mentions that leaving his group with the intention of going to Mumbai to learn and then return to teach was a regrettable decision, as it led to the breakup of their group.
As for his achievements, Atish proudly shares that his YouTube channel has garnered 2.5 lakh subscribers. His team successfully participated in Dance Plus 5 and 6, gaining recognition throughout Jharkhand. Moreover, his biggest achievement is the support he receives from his family.
For the younger generation aspiring to pursue a career in dance, Atish advises having passion and maintaining a positive mindset. He emphasizes the importance of education before dance and encourages individuals to embrace a lifelong learning attitude.
