A professional Indian Classical Musician and teacher for more than twenty years, Atish Mukhopadhyay thinks that he has achieved success in a real sense as he has been able to please his guru.

Atish Mukhopadhyay is an Indian Classical Musician and he plays Sarod- an Indian classical musical instrument. He has been learning Music for as long as he can remember. However, it’s been twenty years since he started teaching it professionally.

Atish was born in a joint family based in West Bengal. The atmosphere at his home was such that everyone in the family was involved in Music in some or the other capacity. Therefore, he too got fascinated to learn Music and started learning to sing and play musical instruments from a young age.

Talking about Covid, Atish says that the pandemic wreaked its havoc on everything and hit the fraternity of performing artists the most. Owing to the pandemic imposed travel bans, he got stuck in Russia which left him in turmoil. Besides, he says that though people resorted to the online mode of conducting classes and meetings, in-person interactions are irreplaceable.

To youngsters, Atish advises them to know their culture without any judgment as he thinks that a country’s existence will be at stake if its culture is not well promoted and protected.

Atish thinks that be it Music or any other field a formal Education may allow one to enter the relevant field, but it can’t guarantee one’s success in that field. Only with Experience does one grow in their field of interest. Besides, dedication, hard work, and passion to do what one does will help one succeed in life.

Talking about struggles in life, Atish says that being a trained Indian Classical musician, he had to struggle a lot initially as opportunities are scarce in the Indian Classical Music field. However, he worked hard and later was able to get an opportunity to teach Music overseas.

Atish thinks that Indian Classical Music acts as a stimulus for the brain. He says learning  music improves one’s analytical abilities and also their attention span.

Talking about his achievements, Atish says that for him being happy in life is the biggest achievement. And for achievements in terms of titles and awards, he says that among many awards, he was given the Sangit Sadhak Award by a musical organization based in New Delhi. He also got an award from Pandit Kishan Ji Maharaj in Kolkata.

Atish considers Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, his role model, and his inspiration. Besides, his guru is also an inspiration to him. Besides, Swami Vivekananda and Ram Krishna Paramhans are also his sources of inspiration.

Atish thinks that the best way to live life is to accept your present and not worry about your past and future. Therefore, he says that even if he could go back in time he would not want to change anything in his past. However, he would want to be born fifty years ago to work and learn from the musicians at that time.

His Life Mantra is to live each day as if it were his last day.
