Atamjeet Singh is a choreographer and dancer. He hails from Prayagraj.
Recalling his childhood, Atamjeet says he spent his early days of life in Prayagraj. He did his schooling at St. Joseph’s School, followed by his graduation from Allahabad University.
Atamjeet had his own family business. However, he had always been inclined towards dance. To pursue his passion for dance, Atamjeet moved to Mumbai to pursue his training in dance.
Talking about his challenges, Atamjeet shares that when he finally decided to pursue dance as his career, he was not supported by his family. However, this didn’t stop him, and he funded his own expenses by working somewhere. He could take dance classes only for three months owing to a lack of finances. Thereafter, Atamjeet came back to his hometown and started giving dance classes from his home itself. All this while, he didn’t receive any support or encouragement for his passion and was often questioned by society. These situations made Atamjeet more adamant about proving himself in the field of dance.
Sharing his pandemic experience, Atamjeet says that COVID impacted his earnings, which were running smoothly before the virus struck. All he had was his savings to sail himself through the pandemic. When the situation finally stabilized, Atamjeet pulled himself up but didn’t get any students for six months at a stretch. He felt as if he had to start from scratch, having invested all his money in his studio and not getting any income out of it.
Speaking about his achievements, Atamjeet shares that just a year after opening his classes, he got an opportunity to showcase his talent on Dance India Dance. It took him almost eight years to get his own dance studio. In addition to that, it took Atamjeet three more years to open UP’s biggest dance studio. His academy students have also represented themselves on various reality shows, and they have gone an extra mile to open their own dance studio.
When asked about his role models, Atamjeet says he draws inspiration from Hrithik Roshan, a well-known name when it comes to dance. He replicates his dance steps and walks in his footprints.
Atamjeet advises aspiring dancers to start early owing to intense competition. He adds that they should practise dance at least for ten hours on a daily basis for years altogether. Atamjeet says that they should get fully trained and then launch themselves into the industry. He says it is very important to know how to earn money with their talent.
Atamjeet advises the youth to invest their savings and have proper knowledge about it.
In his free time, Atamjeet does yoga and meditation. He reads good books to enhance his knowledge and keep himself motivated.
