Education is the only key to transform society.
Ashok Kumar Soni has been working as a CMO at GBH American Hospital. He looks after the emergency cases and works as a doctor in the emergency department.
Ashok belongs to Sanchore city of Jalore district. He says that the level of education is very low there and people have a mindset to engage a child in the family business since his childhood. He says that he is a ‘Soni’, and everyone in his family is a goldsmith, but his father is out of this league as he has done pharmacy. And that’s why his father knew the importance of education so from the beginning, it was his dream to put one child into the traditional family business and another one to become a doctor.
Ashok says that he was very notorious as a child and always carried a matchbox with him as he was fond of putting fire to thermocol sheets. Because of his activities, he was sent to the boarding school in Mt. Abu from the fifth grade. Due to homesickness he never felt like studying. Also, earlier he used to study in a government school and was suddenly shifted to an English medium school, so studies were not his forte. So his initial four years turned out to be very difficult for him and he even failed many times. After coming in 10th, he wanted to become an engineer but his father’s dream was to make him a doctor, owing to which his father forced him to opt for Science in 11th std and was sent to Kota for further studies.
Ashok says, that was a turning point for him because he felt that if you want to bring change in a society then education is the key. After going to Kota, he got good friends and teachers because of whom, his life changed and he started doing well in studies besides exploring all the good and bad things in life with those friends. After completing twelfth, he studied hard for his entrance for a year and he got 163rd rank all over Rajasthan because of which he got admission in RNT Medical College, Udaipur to pursue his M.B.B.S. Alongside he used to teach PMT students to earn some money. Gradually, he was so intrigued by teaching that he grew in this field and started teaching nursing and medical and civil services aspirants as well.
Ashok says while teaching civil services aspirants, he got so much exposure to this field that he himself is now preparing for the same and is directed and focussed towards UPSC civil services.
Talking about role models, Ashok says that from the very beginning, he was affectionate towards teachers because he thinks that a teacher is the one who has the capacity to bring change to everything. So his mathematics teacher from boarding school, a few teachers from Kota are his role models for always motivating him for studies and friends, who taught him how to study apart from having fun. Apart from them, he is highly inspired by APJ Abdul kalam.
About Covid, Ashok says that Covid is such a disease whose treatment is like a gamble because there is no fixed treatment for it. So during this time he had to deal with many such patients with mild-to-extreme symptoms which was a challenging and risky task for him but he did well and tried to save more lives by keeping himself safe.
In his spare time, Ashok does his UPSC preparation and other than that he is also writing a novel having some life incidences of him and his friends. Apart from this he likes to sit alone at Rani Road or Fatehsagar to introspect about himself which kind of relieves him.
