Struggle has been an integral part of Ashish’s childhood, due to which he learned modesty in life and tried to take up the responsibilities to cope with the financial challenges along with his studies. Being a teacher, along with academics, he is also instilling good values in students.

Ashish Purohit has been working as an assistant professor at the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology in Patiala, Punjab, since 2016. After completing his B.Tech. in 2001, he worked as a teacher for a year, and then he joined the Indian Space Research Organization as a scientist. After two years, he went to IIT Delhi to do his Masters, and then he got placed at Tata Motors in Pune as a manager of development. Then, in 2010, he again joined IIT Delhi as a research scholar and completed his PhD in 2015.

Ashish hails from Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. He completed his schooling at a government school there itself. He pursued his B.Tech. from Government Engineering College, Ujjain. He says that he has always been interested in the field of engineering since childhood.

Ashish says that in his childhood, he saw a scarcity of money in his house because of the loss of his father’s job, and due to that, everyone in the house had to struggle a lot. That’s when he decided that he would do something big in life so that, in the future, they would never be short of money.

Talking about role models, Ashish says his parents have always been his inspiration because he has seen them struggle in life, and he feels it was because of their struggle that he has become something today and has reached so far. His elder brother is also his role model because he has followed in his brother’s footsteps. He also gets a lot of inspiration from his supervisor because he is a very hardworking person.

Ashish thinks that education, knowledge, and experience are sequential because, as long as there is no education, knowledge is not to be attained, and knowledge can only be gained when you get education. Without knowledge, there is no implementation and, hence, no experience. So to be successful, it is important to follow this sequence. Still, if you get experience without education, then it will take a lot of time to move ahead in life.

Ashish advises aspiring engineers to enter this field with the mindset that you have to give your best, and if you are doing so, then you will not face any problems in it.

About the COVID times, Ashish says that he himself became a victim of COVID and became so serious that he got hospitalized for six days, and after recovery, he was sent home. He says that this time has turned out to be very difficult for him, and he feels that if we want to avoid it, then we have to follow all the guidelines and protocols issued in this matter, and only then will we be able to survive this contagious disease.

In his free time, Ashish likes to listen to music, play musical instruments, and sing along. Other than that, he also has some interest in YouTube for the purpose of learning.
