Challenging all the patriarchal norms, Aryama joined AAI which was a male-dominated organization back then. She joined as the first woman Air Traffic Controller and today she is the Director of AAI, Uttar Pradesh.

Aryama Sanyal shares that her parents always gave her equal opportunities as her brother. She says that in her time, women were not allowed to step outside of their homes much. But her parents always ensured that she stood neck-to-neck with her male counterparts contrary to societal beliefs.

Aryama says that to dream is not enough, you must put in hard work to be able to achieve your dreams. She says that from the beginning itself she wanted to do something for the country and she feels fortunate enough to be able to do so.

Aryama shares that controlling Air Traffic is a very critical job, one can’t afford to commit any mistakes as one mistake can claim the lives of all the passengers on a flight.

Aryama says that in her profession she accepted all the challenges head-on which imbued in her leadership qualities.

Aryama thinks that making mistakes is normal but we should learn from our mistakes and never commit them again.

Talking about her achievements, Aryama says that the GOI recognized and felicitated her for her contribution to Civil Aviation in the country. Besides, she also received many awards for her exemplary work in her profession. Furthermore, being a Bengali, writing a book in Hindi is also an achievement for her.

Aryama says that her mother was her biggest support system. She always motivated her and gave her equal opportunities as her brother. Besides, she also acknowledges the support that she received from her family at all times.

Aryama advises people to keep themselves updated with changing times by learning new skills to stay relevant. Besides, she says that to achieve anything in life you should put in immense hard work.

In her spare time, she likes to read books, write poetry, and travel places. Besides, she also likes to engage in social activities and help the needy.

Aryama thinks that Education is the foundation of your life and with your Experience, you build on it further. She says without education you can’t gain experience.

Her message to people is that the adventure of life is to enjoy doing what you do. Therefore, keep dreaming and enjoy working hard.
