Knowing that Ballet as a dance form is not much explored in India, Aruna, sensing the opportunity, came to Mumbai and started her Ballet dance classes there which later flourished into a full-fledged Ballet dance school.

Aruna Dehaloo is the Founder and Owner of Aruna Dehaloo School of Ballet in Mumbai.

Aruna originally hails from South Africa but currently is settled in Mumbai. She did her Ballet qualification courses from Royal Academy of Dance, London. She is trained in Ballet, Kathak and Latin American Salsa.

Aruna feels that Ballet as a Dance form hasn’t been much tapped into in India and that’s why she thought of setting up her Ballet dance school in India. She started with her dance classes which later flourished into a dance school.

Aruna says that her mother always wanted to become a dancer. And she introduced Aruna to Ballet at a young age.

Her parents have been Role Models for her all her life. Besides, she also takes inspiration from her students as they make progress in their dance journeys.

Besides dancing, Aruna loves to draw and read books.

Aruna thinks that along with following one’s passion, one should also look at the business aspect of it as to how to grow it monetarily.

Talking about challenges that she faced, Aruna says that coming to Mumbai came as a cultural shock to her and then adapting to the new culture altogether was challenging for  her. Besides, being a woman entrepreneur entailed its own set of challenges for her.

Talking about Covid, Aruna says that the hardest thing about the pandemic was that she couldn't see her students come to her dance classes physically.

To aspiring dancers, Aruna advises them that there is no right or wrong time to take to Dancing. You just have to be passionate about it and follow it correctly. Besides, she advises them to find the right dance teacher for themselves who can teach them Dance correctly.

Aruna thinks that whatever one does in life one should never forsake their formal Education. She says that in the event one is not able to follow their passion they can always have their education to fall back on.

Aruna doesn’t have any regrets in life whatsoever. And even if she could go back in time via a Time Machine, she would not want to change anything in her past.
