For Arun, dance is not just about performing on the stage but also about finding his true identity through it.

Arun Sreenivasan is the director of Medhakshetra School of Arts and Dance, Bengaluru. He is a performing artist and practices Bharatanatyam.

Talking about his role models, Arun says that he considers many people as his role models. He draws his inspiration from all his gurus from whom he learned Bharatanatyam. He also draws inspiration from veteran actors of the likes of Savitri, late Sridevi, etc.

Talking about his childhood, Arun says that he started learning to dance much before he learned to write. Besides, he says that he was not much into sports but would participate in cultural activities like dance, shloka recitation, etc. with vigor at school.

According to Arun, success is about doing what gives you the most joy. He says that everybody is not meant to do everything in life.

Arun says that for him dancing has never been about being up on stage. He has always tried to find out what dance is to him and what he is to dance.

Talking about his mistakes, Arun says that he made some mistakes whilst experimenting with his dance performances. However, in retrospect, he is happy that he made those mistakes as he learned a lot from them.

To aspiring dancers, Arun says that nowadays there are many career opportunities in the field of dance. One can be a dancer or can also work as a dance teacher if they don’t like performing in front of people but have a passion for dance.

Arun says he hardly gets any free time as he is mostly absorbed in thinking about dance only. But whenever he gets free time, he likes to read epics and autobiographies.
