Post his retirement after serving on various Government posts, Dr. Arun is serving the underprivileged sections of society by practicing as a Physician and a Geriatrician at a charitable clinic. He also writes for newspapers and journals.

Dr. Arun Kumar Bapna is a Geriatrician and a Writer. At present, he is working as a Geriatrics consultant and a Physician at Bakhtawar Lal Clinic in Bapu Bazar, Udaipur. He has been associated with the Rotary Club of Udaipur ‘Mewar’ since 2009 and also  served as the Secretary and the President of the club a few years ago. At present, he is the Chairman of the Disease Prevention Committee in Rotary District 3054.

Arun cleared his graduation in medical science in 1972, and took a government job and worked for thirty-two years on different posts like Medical Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Medical Superintendent and more.

In 2008, Arun retired and came to Udaipur. In Udaipur, initially he worked with Aravali Hospital as a Geriatrician. After two years, he joined Bakhtawar Lal Clinic and he has been working there since a decade. He feels satisfied with his work here because the patients come from a poor background and his purpose to serve the society is being fulfilled there.

Since childhood,  due to his family background, Arun imbibed principles of honesty and moral values. That’s the reason why he has always been inclined to do something through which he can serve the society at large.

Arun passed his twelfth grade from Jaipur and after that he joined SMS Medical College there. After completing his graduation, he started practising in Jaipur itself, but he felt apprehensive about this job. In the meantime, he got an offer of a government job that he ended up joining. In addition, his wife is also a Doctor and Arun considers himself lucky because his wife also has no inclination towards money.

Arun laments that he did not want to come to Udaipur because being a Geriatrician, he had no scope in Udaipur. But Dr. Anand Gupta at Aravali Hospital read his resume and approached him to come over as there were not such specialties yet and he joined. That is how his journey in Udaipur started.

When Covid started, Arun was working at full speed initially but later, numerous cases started coming out and it became a challenge to handle. Also, there were many parameters that had to be taken care of. So he started video counselling and also gave a time slot to the Indian Medical Association for consultation.

Arun regrets that society is moving too much towards money and luxury especially in the medical profession. He thinks that money should be the last thing that should come to the minds of doctors.

Arun is also a writer and he writes about the prevailing social issues along with writing articles for the newspapers. He had a book published way back in 2002. He wanted to do some movements in the society apart from serving in the medical field and that’s the reason he joined Rotary Club because he found that it was working actively for the welfare of the society.

Arun gets hurt by the worst face of his profession and he had a very long fight even in the beginning when he was in the government job and here too. He feels bad that the doctor community is going astray by merely considering their profession as a business and the majority of them are on that wrong track. This made Arun think that it would be better if he had joined the administration or would be a District Magistrate as to serve the society in a better way.

If Arun gets a chance to go back in time, he would have become a writer as he has a great passion for travelling and he enjoys meeting people.

Arun’s thoughts about leadership is that a leader cannot be the only one who is well educated or a master of his subject, rather he is the one who is absolutely on base and does not consider himself to be superior to others.
