Apoorv Sen is the Chief Operating Officer at the NGO- Shubhda in Ajmer.
Recalling his childhood, Apoorv says that he completed his education in different places as his father was a journalist and got frequent transfers. He completed his primary education at Central Academy, Jaipur, and then studied at Bikaner Boys School till the eighth grade. Afterwards, he went to Kota for higher studies and then completed his college education at Government College, Ajmer. He enjoyed his childhood thoroughly and also won the election for the President of the Student Union of his college.
Apoorv shares that starting an NGO for specially challenged children was the thought of his mother. He remembers that once his parents attended a function as chief guests and saw the disabled children. His mother decided to do something for the welfare of these children and started an NGO called ‘Shubhda’. After completing his education, he too joined this NGO to assist his mother.
Talking about his struggles, Apoorv says that he faced many challenges in gaining the trust of the people for the NGO. He worked hard to make them understand their work and to make parents aware of the special needs of their disabled children. But he never gave up and followed the teaching of his parents that if you are honest with your work, it may take time, but it will pay off in the long run.
Sharing his achievements, Apoorv says that in 2017, ‘Shubhda’ was recognised as the Best NGO in a national event. His NGO was also recognised by many other awards, and he got an appreciation for his work. His biggest accomplishment is that his NGO is working without any government funding.
Apoorv’s role models are his parents, and he always follows their teachings. He learned a lot from them and also learned how to tackle adverse situations. He also admires Swami Vivekananda and Subhash Chandra Bose and is inspired by their life journeys.
Apoorv advises the youth to be stable first by having faith in themselves. It is important to be patient and honest to achieve the desired goals and objectives.
Comparing education and experience, Apoorv says that experience is more important than education, as a person learns a lot from others and daily life incidents and gains experience. Education is also important as it gives basic knowledge, but experience gives practical knowledge.
