V.Anuradha Singh is a classical Kathak dancer based in Bhopal. She has performed more than 800 solo highly reputed stage performances spread across India and abroad.
Anuradha is also an empaneled solo Kathak dance artist in the outstanding category with the ICCR, Festival of India in abroad cell, Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
Anuradha has performed in many famous dance and art festivals like the Khajuraho Festival, Pune Festival, Ajanta-Ellora Festival, Golconda Festival, Kalidas Festival etc. Her first performance was at the Festival of India in Moscow. More recently, she performed in Mexico, her Kathak dance solo on behalf of the Govt of India.
Describing her childhood memories, Anuradha says that her dance started in her childhood. She chose Kathak to learn classical dance. At a very young age, she had received a dance scholarship under a scheme from the Madhya Pradesh government. Under this scholarship, she learned Kathak under Guru Pandit Kartik Ramlal at the Chakradhar Nritya kendra. She used to practice dance for about eight hours daily for about four years.
Anuradha evolved a unique style of classical Bhakti Kathak dance, based on Meera bhajans. She also performed Sufi Kathak based on the poetic tradition of Hazrat Amir Khusro.
Talking about her struggles, Anuradha says that she had a kidney problem since childhood and also had high blood pressure. But in her passion for dance, she practices for hours and her body supports her.
When asked about her mistakes, she says that everyone makes mistakes and learns from them. There is a saying in Kathak that a person makes mistakes thirty times and starts winning thirty-one times.
Speaking about her achievements, Anuradha says one of her memorable achievements was her continuous hours of Kathak dance performance at two places in a span of ten minutes in a single day in Rajasthan.
In her free time, Anuradha loves to design costumes for Kathak. She enjoys designing the interiors of her home, going for long drives and spending time at her farm house to be with nature.
