Anukriti Vishwakarma is a Kathak Dancer, a Teacher at Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra and Founder of Punaraakriti Performing Arts in Delhi.
A native of Madhya Pradesh, Anukriti attended Nalanda Higher Secondary School for her final education. After passing twelfth grade, she moved to Delhi. She has been a teacher at Delhi's esteemed Shri Ram Bhartiya Kala Kendra, a dance institution. In addition, she founded Punaraakriti Performing Arts, her own dance school.
According to Anukriti, she acquired the courage to perform on stage by performing with her aunt in Delhi on a variety of stages. She also triumphed in other contests. She trained for five years at the National Institute of Kathak Dance, where her greatest accomplishment was always holding the top position during her training. The Ministry of Culture and the Kathak Kendra also awarded her a scholarship and a Doordarshan grade. In 2022, her guru, Jai Kishan Maharaj, performed her Ganda Bandhan.
Anukriti recalls that music was always there in her household and that her paternal aunt taught her Kathak. In addition, her uncle used to teach music at Delhi's Bal Bharti Public School. Ever since she was a little child, dancing had been a part of her extracurricular activities. She thereafter made the decision to continue on the same path and joined the Kathak Kendra in Delhi.
When asked about her role models, Anukriti responds by saying that she always looks up to the good qualities of people and tries to grasp them. She finds great motivation and inspiration in the lyrics of a poem that her grandfather wrote especially for her.
Reflecting on her early years, Anukriti recalls that her grandfather was an excellent writer despite being a bank manager. She remembers spending a lot of time with her grandfather, who passed away recently. He consistently encouraged her and worked to elevate her work.
She advises everyone interested in the dance field that learning any kind of art or entering this area requires being an ardent learner. It is necessary to always be empty before one's guru in order to accept fresh knowledge. A key component of success is being sincere in your endeavours.
Regarding struggles, Anukriti talks about her hardships, including having to live alone in a hostel when she first moved to Delhi. She struggled to make ends meet while living in Delhi. But she constantly attempts to move on in life, believing that everything occurs for a reason.
She provides the youth confidence by advising them to stay connected to their roots. Understanding our culture, authenticity, language, and customs is equally crucial, says Anukriti.
