With a focus on sustainability, he imparts his unique approach to fashion, fostering positive change. Anuj's journey embodies innovation and a drive for a better fashion world.

Anuj Sharma originally comes from Jodhpur but currently lives in Ahmedabad. He studied Apparel Designing at the National Institute of Designing in Ahmedabad.

Anuj started an initiative called ‘Button Masala’, which is about a sustainable garment making technique he developed. Anuj travels around the world to teach this technique. He also has a clothing brand, but his main focus is on his initiative.

Anuj points out that the textile industry is a major polluter globally. He mentions that earlier in India, people wore draping clothes, but now most of the clothes are made by cutting and stitching. In his technique, there's no cutting or stitching. This means there's no waste created from cutting. Also, such clothes can be transformed into various shapes and sizes, allowing us to buy fewer clothes. Anuj explains that garments made using this technique can be worn by people of different ages and can even be turned into bags. And anyone can learn this design, not just professionals.

He has showcased his Button Masala collection at Lakme Fashion Week. He chose the name ‘Button Masala’ because he was inspired by a button-adorned garment. The whole concept revolves around buttons and their possibilities.

Anuj believes that his technique is a unique change in the garment industry after two-hundred years. He notes that while there are new ideas, the garment industry has largely remained the same.

Unlike others who might sell their ideas, Anuj prefers to teach. He believes his technique can make the world more sustainable, reducing the need for excessive clothing consumption. He mentions it's a quick technique, allowing him to teach on the spot while traveling.

Anuj proudly states that he's taught this technique to around 50,000 people in about twenty-five countries, including India.

Regarding his interest in fashion designing, Anuj recalls that he was good at drawing. Someone suggested he try design, so he visited NIT and liked the campus. He didn't want a regular study routine, so he applied to NIT and got into fashion.

Anuj's brand is different; they encourage others to copy rather than hide their work.

Talking about his childhood, Anuj says that he grew up in Jaisalmer about which he does not remember much as he was a child. Later, he went to an English medium school in Jodhpur, and enjoyed playing sports and games in the streets. He didn't have big dreams; he just wanted to play and disliked schools starting early in the morning.

He looks up to his mother, maternal uncle, and nature for inspiration. He values our culture and nature for their unbiased lessons. Animals also inspire him because they don't know bias.

He enjoys singing and believes songs connect people. He mentions that songs are inspiring, but emotional ones can sometimes lead to unnecessary depths.

Talking about his achievements, Anuj says he doesn't consider himself to have achieved much. He'll feel accomplished when more people adopt the Button Masala technique. However, he feels he's earned respect and experience from his travels.

Anuj's struggle has been convincing people that Button Masala has a bright future. The garment industry is conservative, and people are hesitant to wear clothes which are quite different from the normal ones.

For newcomers in fashion, Anuj advises being patient, humble, and avoiding ego. He believes humility opens doors to self-analysis and better understanding.

He advises the younger generation to focus on self-improvement before criticizing others. He believes India has its flaws, but self-acceptance is key to progress.

Anuj's story revolves around creativity, sustainability, and a mission to change the fashion industry for the better.
