Ankush Biswas is the owner of Sangria Restaurant in Udaipur.
Ankush was born in Delhi and grew up in different places across the country. He completed his schooling in Jalandhar, Bangalore, Calcutta, Delhi, etc. because of his father's transferable job. As a traveling schooler, he made new friends everywhere he went, and he has friends everywhere in India. Having experienced this lifestyle made him fall in love with travel.
Talking about his journey, Ankush says that his father was an Army personnel officer, which resulted in him moving around the country according to his posting. So he traveled to many places across the country. Later, he pursued a bachelor’s degree in hospitality and then joined Cleartrip. During his tenure at Cleartrip, he learned the ropes of e-commerce travel. In his career, he also worked with Expedia, where he managed the Indian subcontinent. This job required traveling for over 150 days a year. After he left Expedia, Ankush wanted to do something of his own and thus became a part of a startup in Udaipur.
When asked about his challenges, Ankush says that he faced many ups and downs in his journey. After completing his graduation, he had to decide what to do in the future. Initially, he dedicated himself to working for some years to gain experience. So he started working with Cleartrip and Expedia as well, where he learned many things and worked with different people. While working at Expedia, he faced the challenge of having issues with the manager. In 2019, he quit his job and thought that it was the end of everything, but that was beneficial for him as he got the chance to analyze things and came up with the idea of starting his own venture.
Sharing his COVID experiences, Ankush says that the pandemic was difficult for everyone. The hospitality sector was badly affected. On the other hand, the good thing was that it provided the opportunity to think and realize what was happening around us. Having so much free time on his hands during the pandemic, he then came up with the idea of starting Sangria.
Ankush’s role model is his father, who served in the armed forces, pushing his boundaries and finding time for both family and the nation. He also admires Elon Musk and aspires to be like him.
Advising aspirants in his field, Ankush believes that a man has two aspects: skill and will. He also feels that people hailing from the hospitality industry should focus on expanding their social circle and meeting people with the same interests. One should have the proper knowledge and follow their passion.
In his spare time, Ankush likes to travel. He also loves to swim, as water is a form of therapy for him.
Comparing education and experience, Ankush feels that learning and experience are both interlinked. Education acts as a guideline, and experiences shape one's personality. A person should be an amalgamation of both.
If given a time machine, Ankush wants to know and understand more about the hospitality industry.
Talking about leadership, Ankush believes that nobody is a born leader, and all that matters is how good you are with people. It is about embracing differences and understanding different perspectives. A good leader should listen, understand the strengths, and try to leverage them by putting himself at the forefront and leading the way.
Ankush feels that a person should imbibe the qualities of water and be fluid, adaptable, and accommodating. One should face the troubles of life with calm and patience and make them part of their personality.
