Ankit Jain comes from an affluent family of doctors from Khetri, a small town in Rajasthan. Even, his education was in pharmacy. But, he was never interested in the medical field and wanted to explore new horizons. He feels that in small towns you are known by your family, but he wanted to carve out his name independently and with his mother’s support he started his own journey.
Ankit went to Jaipur and joined an export house as a coordinator. But, in a short span of 3-4 months he switched to a web-development company as he had always loved gadgets and was a tech freak. By a stroke of luck he met the distributor of Koutons, which was at its peak at that time, and was invited to join them. He joined them and started handling more than 50 franchisees of Koutons and Charlie Outlaw spread over Rajasthan, MP and Chhattisgarh.
But, things changed after three years and Koutons faced bad times. He moved over to Club Mahindra Holidays as Channel Sales Manager where he had a successful stint. Meanwhile he got married in 2010. One of the franchisees had a Volkswagen automobile showroom in Kota and he invited him to look after that. Ankit moved over to automobiles in 2011. He completed the four years sales target in just two and a half years.
Again, he was invited by a Skoda dealer to join his showroom in Udaipur. But, after a few months he realized that it had been a wrong call on his part as that showroom had gross mismanagement. Meanwhile he came in contact with the BMW dealer who had two showrooms in Jaipur and one in Udaipur. He joined the Udaipur showroom in 2014 and is currently working in Jaipur looking after all the three showrooms-two in Jaipur and one in Udaipur.
Ankit faced a lot of struggle initially as he started from a very low salary. It was difficult to make two ends meet. But, he says hard work pays and gradually he progressed. He has had to sacrifice family time as his work initially involved a lot of travelling.
Ankit had no role models. He learned good things from everyone he met. He thinks that people you meet give you lessons.
To youngsters aspiring to join the sales field, his advice is that if you can sell yourself, you can sell anything. He advises that whenever you are dealing with a customer, identify the decision maker in the group and try to address yourself to them only.
Ankit is of the opinion that education is important for your first break, but after that it is experience which counts.
Ankit had been a born leader. From his school days he loved to inspire people giving them advice and was nicknamed ‘Gyani’ by his friends.
Ankit has fond memories of his childhood spent in Khetri where he used to tease his younger sister a lot.
Even if he is taken back in time and given a chance to change things he would not change anything as he loves what he has been doing.
Music is the biggest stress buster for Ankit and he also sings sometimes. Besides, he loves to play games with his family in his free time.
