A dedicated classical dancer, Anjana followed her passion for dance and always tried to make her own path to grow in this field. She has taught Kathak at the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre in South America for two years and is an empanelled artist with ICCR.

Anjana Singh is a Kathak Dancer and Teacher. She is a disciple of Rajendra Gangani and has been in this field for the last twenty years.

Anjana is a resident of Etmadpur, a little town in Agra. After completing her studies there, she pursued her further studies in Agra. She completed BA and MA in English Literature. She had always liked to dance ever since she was a little child. So, she enrolled in Kathak courses at Kalavati Sangeet Kala Niketan, learning from her master, Dhirendra Tiwari.

She then travelled to Delhi's Kathak Kendra. She graduated from Kheragarh with an MA in Kathak with an honours certificate. She also completed Prayag Sangeet Samiti's ‘Kathak Praveen’. She then spent a year intensely doing Kathak to obtain experience. She then began working for Aditi Mangaldas Dance Company, where she spent seven years. She was given the chance to teach Kathak for two years at the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre in South America, and is also an empanelled artist with ICCR.

According to Anjana, the history of Kathak is fascinating since, at first, it was done in temples to represent the ‘Kathas’,  but with time, the style evolved and it began to be performed at ‘Raj Darbars’. It is currently becoming more and more popular as a classical dance style worldwide. In this dancing style, males and girls wear different costumes: guys wear ‘angrakhas’, and girls wear ‘lehengas’.

Anjana looks up to her father, her guru and to Aditi Mangaldas, since she has learnt a lot from them and strives to follow their advice. Each of them is significant in her life.

Anjana talks about the difficulties she had when she decided to pursue dancing as a career on her own. Nevertheless, she never gives up and is always prepared to deal with issues.

She shares her accomplishments, stating that one of her highlights as an artist has been performing on several esteemed platforms. She considers herself fortunate to have had encounters with well-known individuals. It was a proud experience for her to perform twice in front of the past and present Presidents of India. She views her students as her greatest accomplishments as well. Her greatest accomplishment is imparting what she is learning to others.

Anjana advises anyone aspiring to learn Kathak that self-belief, perseverance, and hard effort are crucial in this field. To succeed in the arts, one should adhere to the guidance and example provided by their mentors. Working in the arts requires constant practice.

She finds great motivation and inspiration in the saying, "Those who try never lose."

Teenagers are advised by Anjana to constantly strive to follow the procedure and to have patience. One should continue forward in life with well-defined goals.
