Anjana Purohit has been the Founder-Principal and Director of Little Angel’s Secondary School in Ajmer since she started the school in 2000.
Originally from Ajmer, she attended St. Mary’s Convent Sr. Sec. School and graduated from Sophia Girls’ College. After completing her B.Ed., she began teaching at a private school.
Recalling her childhood memories, Anjana says she has many fond memories from her school days. She and her friends used to occasionally walk back home, deliberately missing their school bus, and they enjoyed the walk a lot. She also got fascinated by the clothes of the idols in the temple and took them to dress her doll. But today, when she thinks about it, she feels embarrassed about it.
After teaching for almost eleven years at a private school, she encountered conflicts with the management, which prompted her to quit and start her own school. With her husband's support, she acquired land and managed finances to register the school. Initially, she had a staff of three teachers and a peon, and 25 students took admission to her school.
Gradually, with the increasing popularity and strength of the students, she also expanded the school building. With the encouragement of the students' parents, she upgraded her school to the eighth standard, and after some time, she upgraded it to the tenth class as well. But she could not upgrade it further due to some legal issues.
She believes that facing all the difficulties has made her stronger, and she can now handle everything on her own with ease. She claims that once she makes a decision to take action, she never changes her mind, regardless of how difficult the road may be.
Regarding her achievements, Anjana expresses that she never expects any appreciation for her work, but seeing her students succeed in their lives is her real accomplishment.
When asked about her role models, Anjana states that when she was working at the school, she got inspired by the director of the school. She admired his way of interacting with the students and his way of working.
Anjana shares that she got married early and completed her studies after her marriage. Her in-laws, especially her husband, have supported her in every walk of life. She credits her husband for her success. She also advises all husbands to support their wives, keeping their male egos aside.
Anjana’s success mantra is to become self-sufficient and keep yourself fit. She believes that if you haven’t done bad to someone, anything bad will not happen to you.
Anjana believes that education is important, but her experience in the teaching profession has helped her run her own school. So, in her opinion, experience matters more than education.
In her spare time, Anjana likes to take care of the plants in her house garden.
If given a chance to travel back in time in a time machine, Anjana would like to delay her marriage and make herself more qualified so that she could achieve more in life.
To all the budding teaching aspirants, Anjana advises them to consider teaching as a divine profession, not as a business endeavor.
