One who works hard never backs down and keeps trying.
Anita Ordia is a Kathak performer. She is the founder of Kinkini Arts in Jaipur. She is a disciple of Pandit Birju Maharaj and Durga Lal.
Anita was born and brought up in Bhilwara, Rajasthan.
Recalling her childhood, Anita says that she belonged to a small town where learning dance was not seen as a good thing to pursue, but her parents supported her in her decision to learn dance. Meeting Padma Shri Purushottam Das was a watershed moment in her life; he encouraged her to join the Kathak Kendra in Delhi. After her schooling, she was also granted the National Scholarship for learning Kathak.
Sharing her dance journey, Anita says she was learning from her guru, Lakshman Das Vaishnav, in Bhilwara. During one of her shows in Meerut, she got the chance to attend a dance class by Pandit Birju Maharaj and decided to learn from him. Thereafter, she moved to Delhi. She believes that learning a dance form necessitates devotion to your guru.
Talking about her challenges, Anita states that initially it was difficult for her but she never paid attention to what society thought about her and always did what she wanted to do in her life. She says that after joining Kathak Kendra, she had to follow a strict routine and learn under the guidance of her gurus along with her higher studies, so it became a bit hectic for her, but she did the needed hard work for it.
Anita says that at various stages of her life, she focused on different goals. She established herself in her field, received many awards, and started her own dance institute. She feels satisfied now that she has achieved her desired goals and is focusing on her health and happiness with her dance.
In her spare time, Anita likes to do gardening and paint. She is also fond of reading and writing.
To the budding artists, Anita advises that they try to learn under the guidance of a guru and keep practicing with patience. As vice president of Sangeet Kala Academy, she advises dance students to apply for different scholarships that will help them in their journey. There is a lot of scope in this field, she says.
Anita advises young people to focus on whatever field they want to work in and avoid all distractions that prevent them from achieving their goals.
