Anil Kumar, a Kuchipudi Dancer hailing from Pandikkad in the remote reaches of Kerala's Malappuram district, shares his journey in Meri Kahani. Raised in a humble farming family, Anil is married and has three children.
Reflecting on his childhood, Anil recalls Malappuram's tribal atmosphere, where art was scarce. However, inspired by his elder sister's dancing, he ventured into the world of dance despite their family's financial struggles. Anil, a reserved child, found his passion early on.
Guided by his sister, who was a dance teacher, Anil embraced dance after completing his high school education.
Offering advice to budding artists, Anil suggests securing a stable job before fully pursuing one's artistic dreams. He speaks from experience, acknowledging the importance of financial stability in life.
Grateful for the opportunity to teach dance in Kerala's schools during festivals, Anil has expanded his teaching reach from Trivandrum to Kasargod, significantly improving his financial situation.
Anil cherishes the moments he has spent with renowned Kuchipudi dancers and takes pride in having performed the dance form multiple times in its birthplace in Andhra Pradesh.
When asked about his role models, Anil credits his teacher, Indrani, who treated everyone with equality, as his source of inspiration.
Beyond dance, Anil enjoys music, acting, and directing. He has directed numerous dance dramas, short films, and a Malayalam web series.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Anil's inability to conduct online classes led him to work as a hospital attendant, where he witnessed various distressing situations. Finding solace in dance at home, he found peace amidst the chaos.
Anil's guiding principle in life is to love unconditionally, without expecting anything in return.
