Anand has had a long 35 years career in the Railways. He feels that service in the Railways comes with great responsibility and accountability and many lives depend on it.

Anand Singh Rathore was born in a small village Deogaon in Kekri Tehsil in Ajmer, Rajasthan. His father was a teacher. He did his schooling till the seventh standard in Senior Secondary School, Deogaon. After that, he moved to Kekri for his further studies. He did his graduation from Kekri. He then did his M.Com. in Finance Management from Pali.

In 1986, Anand was placed as an Assistant Station Master in Mumbai Mandal in Central Railways. He got this job through Railway Recruitment Board, Mumbai. In June 1989, he was transferred to Ratlam Mandal, Western Railways on the same post. In 2003, a new division, North-Western Railways was constituted. At that time, he was working as a Station Master, Vijayanagar. Anand has served posts like Assistant Station Master, Station Master, Station Superintendent, and Trainer in his 35-year long service. Currently, he is working as Senior Transportation Instructor, Zonal Railway Training Institute, Udaipur. His work is to provide training to Loco pilots, Assistant Loco Pilots, Guards, and Controllers.

Anand feels that a Central government job has its perks and benefits. He says that being in the Railways is a very crucial job as many lives depend on it. Anand says that it is their responsibility to make the travel for lakhs of passengers every day safe and sound.

Anand says that over the years many technological advancements have taken place in the Railways which has reduced rail accidents. However, mechanization and shifting to new technology have reduced employment in Railways and the number of people working in the Railways has reduced to around 12 Lakhs from the earlier figure of 15 Lakhs. He feels that everything has some positive and negative side to it and so does technological upgradation.

Anand also has an interest in Social Service and was associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad in his college days. He is also associated with the All India Railwaymen’s Federation for performing service to the needy. He has served as ‘Shakha Sachiv’ North-Western Employees Union. After coming to Udaipur, he became the Vice-President of its Udaipur City unit. Anand says that these platforms provide a way to help employees in areas like medical help and issues related to employment. They also organize Blood Donation Camps and Anand himself has donated blood 42 times till now.

Anand shares that during Covid, a great responsibility fell on their shoulders. They had to cut down the number of trains and only allow people with confirmed tickets to travel. Many such decisions were taken to reduce the risk of infection. Anand says that their training process was also shifted online and was not affected by the Covid Lockdown.

Anand says that people who want to come into this field should think thoroughly as it is a really tough job. One has to prepare themselves both mentally and physically. The network of Railways is vast and one can be posted anywhere in the country.

Anand takes inspiration from his father. He says that even after being a son of an influential Jagirdar, his father was down to earth and helped everyone who requested for it. He was often termed as a saint by the people of the village in reference to his social work and welfare activities. Anand gets the inspiration to serve the nation from his father only.

Anand says that Leadership means working with everyone as a team. The individualistic approach does not work well while working with a team. He feels that everyone should invest some time for selfless service with a pure heart.
