Amrit Purohit is the Founder of Swami Shri Atmanand Sewa Sansthan (orphanage).
Amrit is from the hamlet of Raniwara in Rajasthan's Jalore district. He attended his village's government school and graduated. He grew up in a household of both farmers and businesspeople. After finishing his twelfth grade, Amrit's father died, resulting in a period of suffering for him. And that era, he claims, made him more sympathetic to the hardships of orphans.
He began working in social work in 2012 and has continued to do so ever since. He admits that it was a difficult task for him, but he persisted with a good mindset and never gave up.
Talking about the inspiration behind his career option, Amrit explains that he grew up witnessing his uncle labour tirelessly for the underprivileged in society, which inspired him to pursue this professional path. He claims that this inspired him to do the same for himself. He claims that he hails from a business family, and that the fact that everyone in the family is a businessman has influenced him to pursue a career in social service in order to contribute to society.
According to Amrit, both knowledge and experience are valuable in life and compliment one another.
Amrit advises aspiring social workers that the most important requirement is a deep desire to serve others.
When asked about his thoughts on leadership, Amrit says he has always had leadership qualities, but they were refined once he entered the social service industry.
He says he is quite content with his life and sees it as an obligation to society. He thinks that after death, only your acts matter, therefore perform nice deeds.
Apart from work, Amrit enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoys visiting heritage sites.
