Amitabh Shukla is the Commissioner of Income Tax in Mumbai.
Since his mother was a police officer, he also wanted to become an IPS officer. However, due to some conditions, he accepted the offer for a job in the Indian Revenue Service.
Recalling his childhood, Amitabh says he spent his childhood in Lucknow and has good memories of time spent with friends. He completed his education there itself. He did his schooling at the Central School and completed his further education from Lucknow University. He has done MAs in History and Archaeology. He continued his education even after joining the tax department. He did an MBA from England, an LLB from Delhi, and a Postgraduate Degree in Cyber Law from Delhi.
Sharing about his journey, Amitabh says he started his journey as an IRS officer in Delhi. His job took him to the different states of India, and he has worked in various cities such as Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, and Bhatinda. The work was challenging, and it helped him understand people’s problems related to taxes.
Sharing about his experiences, Amitabh says he has also worked as Additional Director General at Prasar Bharati, where he used to organize programs on Doordarshan and All India Radio.
Talking about his mistakes, Amitabh says taxation includes a lot of analysis of books and records. At first, he used to read less and take decisions without proper analysis, which was a huge mistake. He learned from his mistake, and it helped him boost his productivity at work.
Sharing his achievements, Amitabh says he has collected a lot of revenue for the government for the past three decades. Furthermore, he has also trained people related to his work.
When asked about his role models, Amitabh says every senior he worked with was his role model. He has learned something new from every one of them.
To relieve stress, Amitabh likes to sing, as it helps him attain mental peace.
Amitabh’s life mantra is "There is never defeat in life as long as you keep fighting."
Advising the younger generation, Amitabh says In order to become a civil officer, you need to compete in the UPSC examination, which will require graduation and a lot of dedication and hard work.
