A computer engineer by education and a food consultant by passion, Amita caters to star rated restaurants with a purpose of serving society. She considers the kitchen her laboratory and cooking her art.

Amita Joshi is a Surat-based Food Educator and Consultant. She has been in this field for the last twelve years. Inspired by her mother-in-law, who is a Senior Food Specialist, Amita joined her venture, Nira’s cuisine. She is also a guest faculty member at various hospitality management institutes in and out of Surat.

Amita belongs to a Marwari family, which in turn justifies her passion for and interest in food. Amita used to run her own business before getting introduced to the food stream. When Amita was expecting her first child, she happened to attend a few food classes and join her mother-in-law on restaurant visits. This is how her passion for cooking grew, and she made it her profession.

Recalling her childhood, Amita says that she had always been a foodie kid and had wanted to explore and try different cuisines. As she grew up and got married, she felt more connected to food and enjoyed feeding her ten-year-old son surprise dishes.

Sharing her pandemic experience, Amita says that being a computer engineer, the technology transition was not a challenge for her. She started her YouTube channel and marketed herself through different social media platforms and broadcast groups.

Talking about her family venture, Amita says that she and her mother-in-law conduct cooking classes, teaching nearly seventy cuisines. Amita gives consultation to different restaurants and cafes by designing menus for them, especially during festivals. She also trains the chef and visits different places as a celebrity chef. While serving signature dishes to the upper class, Amita also indulges in social work by donating the share received to NGOs.

Amita, who initially operated from a home space, grew her family business by doing cooking shows with various brands of Surat. She shares that the cooking show garnered five hundred students and came with many scholarships, which she considers an achievement. Amita recollects being contacted by Masterchef to learn a Gujarati dish from her cooking studio, which was a dream come true for her.

Giving a glimpse of her role models, Amita says that her mother has been her first teacher, who taught her to cook, followed by her mother-in-law, who further polished her with creativity and innovation. She is also inspired by her husband and father-in-law, both of whom are excellent cooks. Amita also draws inspiration from cooking experts Ranveer Singh Brar and Sanjeev Kapoor.

Amita shares that she considers cooking a combination of engineering and science and keeps on experimenting with it. On that note, she says that she has learned many things from her mother regarding food combinations and the importance of using natural ingredients.

Amita advises everyone to know how to cook since it is a basic necessity for survival. She advises cooking enthusiasts to be consistent, take relevant courses, undergo training, and learn from the experts before opening their own venture. Amita adds that they should learn about Indian spices and know their benefits.

Amita advises the youth to never be afraid of failure but to experience it and learn from it.

In her free time, Amita likes to paint, listen to music, and indulge in meditation and fitness activities.
