Amit Talesara serves as a Director at Pyrotech Electronics Pvt. Ltd., located in Udaipur, where he has dedicated 23 years of his career since 1998. He has designed several innovative electronics products for his company, thus increasing the turnover manifold.
Under Amit's guidance, the Panels Division manufactures a range of products, including control panels, control desks, RTDs, compensating cables, Control Room Solutions, LED lights, and large video screens. These products cater to various sectors such as power, fertiliser, cement plants, metros, as well as the space and defence industries.
Amit takes great pride in the remarkable growth of his company, with turnover increasing by 84 times since he joined. He has spearheaded the development of numerous innovative products and authored a book on the subject. In the Panel Division, he has led the creation of new products for submarines, nuclear plants, and missile launches, with nearly all power plants in India using their company's products.
Amit Talesara also takes immense pride in their pioneering work as the first in India to develop large video screens using LED technology, for which they recently obtained a manufacturing licence. This achievement marks a significant step in reducing India's reliance on imports from countries like China. Additionally, they've engineered earthquake-resistant panels for nuclear plants, capable of withstanding zone 5 vibrations, and EMC-EMI based panels for entities like the National Thermal Power Corporation and submarines.
Amit attended St. Paul’s School for his school education. After his schooling, he pursued a B.Tech. degree in Instrumentation and Controls Engineering from Pune University. Upon completing his education in 1998, he joined Pyrotech Electronics, his family's business. Initially, he worked in the Electronics Division for five years, followed by a year in the PLC division. Eventually, in 2003, he transitioned to the Panels Division, which he has since overseen.
Amit hails from Udaipur and was born in 1976 into a business family. His grandfather was in the timber business, but his grandmother valued higher technical education. She encouraged both his father and uncle to pursue engineering at BITS Pilani. They both started their business by establishing a factory in 1976, which has now grown into a thriving organisation. As their business was more inclined towards the engineering side, Amit's family prioritised engineering education for him and his siblings.
Amit cherishes his childhood, when he spent time with friends, riding bicycles, and playing outdoor games. Growing up in an engineering environment, he and his siblings often engaged in technical projects, creating gadgets like automatic doorbells and fire detectors. In 1985, they acquired their first PC, sparking their interest in learning various computer languages. Amit and his siblings eventually earned engineering degrees from prestigious colleges. His parents guided him to pursue Instrumentation & Control Engineering, a contemporary course at that time, to align with the family business.
Amit emphasises their commitment to customer satisfaction as their guiding principle. The trust they've built over the years has secured partnerships with esteemed entities like ISRO, defence equipment plants, and various government PSUs. All their technology is developed in-house, showcasing their dedication to quality and innovation. He highlights their company's ethos of treating employees like family, noting that many who joined in 1976 are still with the company today.
Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, they reevaluated their expenses, cutting down on non-productive expenditures like brand promotion. Instead, they optimised operations, implementing 24x7 shifts with their best employees, leading to significant cost savings and a successful year in 2020-21. This period also provided valuable learning opportunities in production techniques and manpower management.
During the lockdown, they quickly grew restless after just a few days of staying idle at home. So, they sought special permission from the district collector to operate, promising to focus solely on producing COVID-related products. They developed cost-effective sanitizer stands and highly effective ultraviolet products. Personally, Amit valued the extra time spent with his family during that period.
For newcomers, Amit stresses the importance of three essential skills: a positive attitude, dedication, and a continuous desire to learn. These qualities are vital for success whether in a job or entrepreneurship. For new engineers, he advises dedicating the initial three to four years purely to engineering work before considering managerial positions. He advocates a strong commitment to engineering tasks and fostering innovation.
Despite facing numerous failures in product development and execution phases, Amit persevered and overcame these challenges. He acknowledges that the journey wasn't easy and stresses the importance of learning from failures, ultimately leading to the creation of reliable products meeting international standards.
Amit does not have a specific role model; instead, he learns from everyone he encounters, whether seniors or employees, valuing each opportunity for growth and learning.
Amit acknowledges making mistakes in life that led to losses, expressing a desire to rectify them if given the chance to go back in time. He fondly reminisces about his high school days, considering them the most enjoyable period of his life.
Amit's life mantra revolves around fulfilling commitments. He holds a strong conviction about honouring every commitment made to employees, customers, family, and friends alike.
When it comes to hobbies, Amit has a deep fondness for plants, especially developing bonsai plants. He's currently working on an orchard with 300 fruit plants of various varieties. Additionally, he enjoys caring for pet animals and indulges in small electronics experiments in his spare time. He's also known for making wines that have been well-received by people.
He fondly remembers his father's advice, ”Never fool a customer. If you fool him, he may come one or two times to you, but he will not come to you a third time.” Amit strives to uphold this principle in his own life, believing that maintaining trust with customers is paramount. He advocates a focus on learning and innovation over purely profit-driven motives.
