Amit Agrawal is heading the SVA Group of businesses in Udaipur. His business is in varied sectors such as marble mining and processing, education, and chemicals. In 2004, his father, driven by a commitment to societal contribution, founded the Vision School of Management in Chittorgarh. Subsequently, they established the Aravali Group of Colleges in Udaipur.
Amit was born in Jaipur, but his family relocated from Makrana to Udaipur when he was two years old. He attended St. Paul’s School and pursued engineering at the University of Manchester in the UK. Later, he earned his PGDM in Family Business from the SP Jain Institute of Management and Research.
Amit acknowledges his father as a hardworking individual who serves as an inspiration for him. From his childhood, he would go with his father and see the way he would handle the business.
In 2009, after completing his MBA, he joined his father’s business. Talking about the challenges he faced after joining the parental business, he admits that he didn’t have to face many challenges as he always had his father beside him to guide him. But bringing innovation to the business has been a challenge for him, and he likes to solve problems and face challenges head-on. However, he sometimes feels that it would have been better had he worked with an organisation, as it would have enabled him to better understand the concerns of an employee, which he somehow missed working at his parental business.
Assuming leadership responsibilities at the age of 32, he considers managing his father's business an achievement. Amit attributes his leadership style to his father, highlighting the significance of trust and effective delegation. Notably, he takes pride in establishing the Neerja Modi School in Chittorgarh within a span of nine months.
Addressing the impact of the COVID pandemic, Amit says he handled challenges to ensure that somehow salaries were paid to the employees even during those tough times. He also acknowledges the disruption to students' studies as they couldn’t attend their schools and colleges but remains optimistic about positive outcomes from the pandemic.
Beyond work, he enjoys spending quality time with his children, engaging in activities such as playing and watching movies. As a voracious reader, he likes to read a lot.
Offering advice to the youth, he underscores the importance of hard work and practical learning. He emphasises the transformative power of on-the-ground experience, stating that genuine learning occurs through practical application. Encouraging wholehearted dedication, he believes success is attainable with sincere effort.
Amit emphasises the lifelong importance of family and advocates considering employees as integral members of one's extended family. He dismisses shortcuts, asserting that there is no substitute for hard work on the path to success in life.
