Alokita is a Content Writer at WeCapable and a Youtuber. She also works as a Social Media Marketer on the social media handles of WeCapable.
Alokita belongs to Bihar and completed her schooling till class eighth before she met with an accident and lost her mobility. Since there were no wheelchair accessible schools in Bihar, she completed the rest of her studies through correspondence. Alokita graduated from IGNOU in 2017 and started working from home as a content writer.
Covid restrictions and lockdown situations didn’t affect Alokita much as she usually lived indoors. Most places in the outside world are not wheelchair friendly, and she seldom ventures out. And so, Alokita never felt the restrictions or severity of Covid-19.
Alokita says she has had to struggle most of her life due to a Polio attack at an early age and later due to the accident. In 2016, Alokita went through surgery and can only walk with the help of a walker. She has experienced the resistance and hopelessness of her parents on her ambitions to study and build a career. Society’s mindset on reservations for people with disabilities is also one of the challenges that Alokita faced. However, the internet gave wings to her dreams and made it easy to work.
Alokita worked as a writer with many NGOs voluntarily. This gave her enough experience before graduating and looking for jobs. Due to her voluntary work experience, she got hired easily. In July 2021, Alokita was awarded the Vitamin Zindagi Puruskar for the Best Story. Due to her freelancing work, she had almost stopped creative writing, and after receiving this award, she restarted her creative story writing. Alokita aspires to become a published writer and is currently writing a book.
Alokita currently works for WeCapable and writes articles related to disabilities. She also works as a Social Media Marketer for the company. Through her social media work, she found that underconfidence is a common problem of people with disabilities. They are hopeless with little faith in themselves. Thus, Alokita tries to motivate the people with her short stories and articles. She also works hard to change the mindset of their parents who calculate their child’s worth based on their disabilities and not knowledge or talents. She believes that parents should strengthen their kids with the power of education.
Alokita feels that people around her give her the much-needed motivation and zeal to work. Lalit Kumar, who is an optimistic figure in her life, and also a Polio patient, is her role model. He motivated Alokita to use her writing to make a successful career. She respects him highly and feels grateful for his presence in her life.
To all the people with disabilities, Alokita advises them to develop their skills and strengths and grow from them. She believes in moving forward and living in the present.
Alokita shares that life has not been very kind to her on most occasions. However, she never lost hope and always held her head above the issues. She has always kept a positive mindset and tried to give her best in the present situation with the available resources.
Alokita loves reading and cooking in her free time. She also writes short stories on disabilities and tries to spread awareness. She believes that disabled kids require lots of love and a boost of self-confidence from their parents and society.
Alokita feels inspired by fellow disabled individuals whose disabilities didn’t stop them from achieving great heights.
