The academy's core vision is to inspire its students to lead fulfilling and positive lives through creativity and skill development.
Talking about his achievements, Alankar Tailang shares his pride in having performed alongside the legendary Pt. Birju Maharaj in the same show—a significant milestone in his career. Through his journey, he has had the privilege of meeting esteemed artists and mentors who have shaped his path. Alankar was a top-three finalist in both the ‘Golden Voice of Rajasthan’ and ‘Voice of Rajasthan’ competitions, honours that fuel his dedication to music.
Reflecting on his journey, Tailang shares that his passion for the arts blossomed early in childhood, with his first steps into the world of creativity through dance. His talent was discovered when he performed on stage at a local carnival, an event that led his parents to encourage him to pursue formal dance training. He recalls how his mother, Sandhya Tailang, herself a classical music artist, and his father supported him in every way—mentally, financially, and emotionally—instilling in him the mantra, “Be the best of you.” Their unwavering support laid the foundation for his dedication to the arts and guided him towards the path he walks today.
Tailang’s musical journey began at the young age of two and a half, and he has since mastered thirteen different instruments. With an MA in both Indian and Western classical music and a master’s in Kathak, he has cultivated a deep expertise across disciplines. His versatility extends to dance, where he is proficient in 29 Western styles and has had the privilege of assisting renowned choreographer Shiamak Davar.
Alankar Tailang has always been captivated by classical arts, seizing every chance to learn from his teachers. He feels fortunate to have received timely guidance from remarkable mentors who deepened his passion for dance and music. Over time, his curiosity expanded to include musical instruments, leading him to master drums and guitar and pursue multiple degrees. He studied Kathak under the esteemed guidance of gurus like Shri Girdhari Maharaj, Ustad Ahmed Hussain, and Ustad Ramzan Khan. Inspired by his training and encouraged by his mentors, he decided to give back to society by founding his own academy, dedicated to nurturing artistic talent and creativity.
Alankar reflects on the many role models who have influenced him at various stages of his life, each leaving a distinct mark on his artistic journey. He has a profound respect for legendary figures in the music industry, with special admiration for luminaries like Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty, Kaushiki Chakraborty, Arijit Singh, Jagjit Singh, Sonu Nigam, Mohammad Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey, Lata Mangeshkar, Shreya Ghoshal, and Shilpa Rao. He finds their dedication and craft deeply inspiring.
Tailang feels deeply grateful for the unwavering support of his parents and gurus, as well as the steadfast encouragement from his wife, who not only stands by him but also actively assists in running their academy. Additionally, he finds joy in the presence of his talented son, who brings fulfilment to his life. His outlook on life remains positive, grounded by the support of family and community.
His appreciation extends to the world of dance, where he has long admired Shiamak Davar and his team, whose innovative styles have shaped his own artistic expression. The accomplishments and contributions of these iconic artists, he says, have not only inspired him but have also deepened his passion for music and dance, guiding him both as an artist and educator.
Alankar’s life mantra is to “dream big”—he believes that only when you have a dream can it come true. His motivation in life stems from a deep hunger for knowledge and a drive to embrace challenges. Tailang advises others to seek their own balance and stability while respecting others along the way. "Nothing is impossible," he says, emphasising the importance of making thoughtful decisions based on the situation at hand. Surrounding oneself with positive, supportive people who appreciate your efforts, he believes, is key to a fulfilling journey.
Sharing about his mistakes, Tailang acknowledges that making mistakes is an inevitable aspect of life, and he has certainly encountered his share along the way. He believes it’s crucial not to dwell on these missteps but rather to learn from them and move forward. In his perspective, mistakes manifest in various forms—some arise from personal behaviour and decision-making, others stem from a lack of resources, and some may even result from moments of selfishness.
However, he emphasises that each mistake serves as an opportunity for growth and self-improvement. By understanding and analysing these experiences, Tailang believes individuals can develop resilience and wisdom, ultimately paving the way for greater success in their future endeavours.
For aspiring artists, Tailang emphasises the importance of seeking guidance from experienced mentors when venturing into fields like music, dance, or any art-related discipline. He encourages newcomers to enrol in a reputable academy where they can receive structured training and develop their skills under the supervision of knowledgeable instructors. This foundational learning not only equips them with essential techniques but also helps them gain valuable insights into the art form they wish to pursue. Alankar believes that with proper training and support, individuals can discover their unique paths and cultivate their talents, ultimately leading them towards personal fulfilment and success in their artistic journeys.
Alankar Tailang envisions a bright future for the artistic community in Bikaner, with a primary goal of establishing an art university that will serve as a hub for creativity and skill development. To realise this ambitious dream, he seeks the support and encouragement of the local community, believing that a collective effort can foster a thriving environment for artists. His aspiration is to create a skilled network that connects individuals not only within India but also globally, enabling them to explore diverse opportunities in the art world.
In addition to his long-term goals, Alankar's academy is dedicated to making a positive impact by offering free training to underprivileged and vulnerable children. He warmly invites anyone with an interest in the arts to join his academy, assuring them that they will receive comprehensive guidance and resources tailored to their needs. Tailang is committed to providing students with the knowledge and support necessary to navigate the competitive landscape of national and international competitions, including insights on self-promotion and sponsorship opportunities. By fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment, he aims to empower aspiring artists to reach their full potential and make their mark in the world of art.
