His mother and he used to live alone, and she had been paralysed for about eight years. He began stitching work at the age of twelve and continued for over eight years. He paid for his own studies. Akshay claims that he has always had a preference for singing bhajans. He battled a lot at the beginning of his singing career.

When asked about his role models, Akshay replies that his mother and maternal grandmother have played a crucial role in his music career and have always supported him. He has also received assistance from Lord Shyam and thinks that God is constantly with him.

When he gets agitated, he sings bhajans, songs, and plays music. He believes that music can bring life to the dead and joy to a sad face.

The words from the bhajan "Bharde re shyam jholi bharde" constantly inspire and drive him. He advocates doing good and remaining right in the eyes of God.

Regarding his mistakes, Akshay admits that one of them is trusting people too quickly in life.
