Akash is working hard to fulfill his dream of becoming a playback singer and in the last thirteen years, he has made his mark in the music industry, particularly in Rajasthan.

Dr. Akash Kalawant is a Singer, Performer and Composer. He has been working in the music industry for the past thirteen years.

Akash belongs to Palanpur, Gujarat. But he moved to Sirohi in Rajasthan twenty-two years back for his education. He did his BA in Hindi-English Literature and Music. He even learned to play the Harmonium. Due to not getting a seat in Music-Vocal, he did his MA in English Literature from Rajasthan University. But because of his passion for music, he dropped out of Rajasthan University as he got a Vocal seat in MLSU’s Arts College. He qualified for the Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship Scheme for his Ph.D. and has cleared it with the third rank in Rajasthan.

Sharing his childhood memories, Akash says that her mother had been a singer at Gujarat Doordarshan. That’s why he too had an inclination towards music since childhood.

Akash shares that he started his journey from ‘Vikas Manch’ in Sirohi. He was able to make his mark in music through that platform only. Gradually, he started getting many shows, events and cultural programs.

When asked about his role models, Akash says he considers his mother as his role model because seeing his mother, he has developed his interest in music and has been able to reach so far in this field. Besides, he also draws inspiration from Salim-Sulaiman and Pritam Chakraborty.

Describing his struggles, Akash says he had always dreamt of becoming a playback singer. But coming from a small village, making such a big dream come true has never been less than a struggle for him. He adds that being an outsider, it is very difficult to carve out a place in the music industry.

Talking about his achievements, Akash says he has received his doctorate degree in Music from Kalraj Mishra, Governor of Rajasthan, which is an achievement for him.

During the COVID pandemic, Akash spent most of his time learning and practicing music. On the personal front, he spent quality time with his family and enjoyed the lockdown period.

Between education and experience, Akash says he believes that education is given preference everywhere in today’s era and a good qualification helps you to take up a good job. Beyond that, your experience matters.

In his spare time, he likes to watch motivational videos.

Advising young artists, Akash says that before venturing into Bollywood music, you should have a good hold on Indian Classical Music. Because, until you become strong from the root, you will not be able to grow your branches. He adds that you should spend time in practice and there is a dire need of a good mentor to move forward in this field.
