Ajeesh Venugopalan owns a Marketing Consulting Organization known as AJ & VG Media in Bangalore. He is the Founder and CEO of the firm, utilizing his experience of almost two decades to successfully run the organization.
Ajeesh was born in a small town in Kerala and hated going to school. He was lazy and rebellious but that’s what made him unconventional, as he says. His teachers played a key role in shaping his life. However, Ajeesh feels that the Indian Education System lacks focus on subjects like Humanities, Arts, History, Physical Education, etc., and pays more attention to Science.
Ajeesh started his career with HCL Infosys Systems which sells laptop, desktops, etc. Although he wanted to be a Software Developer, the social pressure of pursuing a career in Sales after completing an MBA didn’t allow him to live his aspirations. Ajeesh feels that what differentiates a person is his strength to persevere with consistency. When one does that, success is unbeatable. However, he thinks that the definition of success differs from person to person. What matters is to do what makes you happy. Thus, success is happiness for Ajeesh.
Ajeesh is an End-to-End Marketer. This means that his company can do various types of marketing projects including digital marketing, video and film productions, promotions of films, short films, etc., of other productions, graphic designing, web developments, SEO work, etc. He owns every skill in the field of marketing and can possibly lead or complete any of the above works. Ajeesh believes that without knowing what one is really getting into, one should not get into it.
Ajeesh wanted to start a company when he was only in the eleventh grade. He followed that passion and made it a reality later. He thinks that reading helps a person understand the world. Reading has transformed him and made him self-aware. Therefore, Ajeesh requests the youngsters to read as much as possible.
According to Ajeesh, wrongly understanding his personality and passion was his greatest mistake in life. Since he followed the herd mentality, he couldn’t master one subject, and thus, had to take a long path to understand and follow his passion. He advises everyone to make mistakes early in life. It took Ajeesh forty years to realize that he was meant for Arts instead of Science.
Ajeesh believes that success is in finding what gives you happiness. If you’re doing something you love and it is giving you joy, then you are successful.
Ajeesh had more role models in his academic life than in corporate life. His English teacher taught him the skill of Public Speaking, Computer Science, Mathematics, and other school teachers and University Professors have greatly impacted his life and made him self-sufficient. Some of his good bosses have changed his perspective on his career while the bad ones have made him self-reliant and independent.
Ajeesh advises the youngsters to spend less time on social media apps and more time reading about History, Philosophy, and Psychology, and to increase their knowledge. Moreover, he advises mingling with nature and friends face-to-face rather than via social media, making intellectual friends, and being picky about the books they choose to read.
During his free time, Ajeesh loves to read or do social work. Daily he takes out one hour for himself to feel rejuvenated by either introspecting or talking to his friends and taking their advice.
Ajeesh talks about the importance of reading History books as that helps us to understand the mistakes made by our ancestors and save us from making them. He is immensely moved by Gregory David Roberts’ writings from the book ‘Shantaram’ and believes that one should forgive and move on but never forget to avoid making those mistakes again.
