Ajay Kumar Jain was born in Ajmer. His father was in the Railways and had a transferable job. Hence, Ajay spent his childhood and schooling days in different places.
In around 1976, Ajay and his family settled in Udaipur. He was in the 8th standard at that time. After that, he completed his schooling in Udaipur. Ajay then did his B. Com from Commerce College and was opting for M.com. However, the passing away of his father changed the trajectory of Ajay’s life, and he joined the Indian Railways in place of his father.
Ajay joined as a Ministerial Employee. After that, he was shifted to a very different department and worked as a Teaching faculty for eight years. In 2002, he was promoted to Assistant Personnel Officer and was posted in Mumbai. He worked for two and a half years there.
Ajay shares that his journey took a turn again in 2004 when he was transferred to the largest Railway Training Center, the National Academy of Indian Railways, Baroda. There he was appointed as a Professor of Personnel Management. In 2007, he was transferred to the North-Western Zone again. He was appointed as an Assistant Secretary in the Railway Recruitment Board, Ajmer. Ajay worked there for three and a half years. He then got a chance to work as an HRM in one of the largest Railway Workshops in Ajmer.
Ajay then got transferred to the corporate office of the North-Western Railways and was appointed as the Deputy Secretary to the General Manager. In 2018, he got a chance to come back to Udaipur and is working here as a Senior Personnel Officer.
Ajay says that he was also a Welfare Officer and worked for the grievance redressal of employees. When he was in the Mumbai Division, he created an online Redressal System that assured grievance redressal within a timeline of 15 days. He also worked on getting the Service Book of each employee digitalized and shifted the process for the new joinees online.
Ajay shares that when he was posted in the Railway Recruitment Board, he initiated the process of taking the entrance examinations online. In the corporate office of the North-Western Railways, he digitalized the Annual Appraisal System of the employees.
Ajay feels that all this would not have been possible without his wife’s support who is a Government Teacher in the Rajasthan Government. She decided to stay in Udaipur and take care of their two daughters, while Ajay could serve in different parts of the country for about 18 years.
Ajay says that his Role Model or inspiration is Purshottam Khandelwal, who was Office Superintendent when Ajay joined initially. He always guided Ajay to take on new challenges in life and never back down from doing something new. Ajay always aspired to be like him in life. Ajay says that all his seniors have been a guide to him in this journey of his.
Ajay opines that the new generation is very intelligent and has immense knowledge. They also have the means to achieve information about different things and fields. However, he feels that they lack seriousness in life and should work on that.
Ajay says that to achieve success in life one has to work hard from the very beginning. Also, one should help the people in need whenever they can and in the capacity they can.
In his free time, Ajay likes to play and watch Cricket, Movies, and sometimes Television.
