Having been brought up in an artistic environment, Aditya stepped into the dance industry to educate others about the various forms of dance.

Aditya Sarmah is the director of Delhi Dance Academy. His institute has been in operation for over a decade now. Aditya, through his academy, teaches all dance forms, which include Bollywood, Hip-hop, Contemporary, Jazz, Belly Dancing, Salsa, Bachata, and Zumba.

Aditya also does events, sending professional troupes for dance performances that include folk, classical, and western forms of dance. Born and brought up in Assam, Aditya shares that since his parents themselves are artists, he grew up listening to good music and dancing. This sparked his interest in the artistic field, and he decided to make dance his career.

Speaking about his challenges, Aditya says that unlike other professions that have a set path, artistic fields are different and driven by passion. He adds that such professions come with unpredictability but have immense opportunities, like becoming a choreographer, teacher, or performer. Aditya had always wanted to become a dance educator, which he made possible by opening his own academy.

Sharing his pandemic experience, Aditya says that COVID interrupted his dance classes, events, and his source of income. After waiting patiently for two months, Aditya started taking online classes, which went well, and he created a student base of 500+ in India and internationally.

When asked about the mistakes artists could potentially make, Aditya says that putting videos on YouTube and right away making money out of them is a false notion. He adds that YouTube is subject to certain copyright standards that people have to meet to be eligible for monetization. Aditya also mentions that reality shows may not be enough to land you a secure career in the field of dance.

Speaking about his role models, Aditya says he draws inspiration from his parents and his mentors, who taught him the intricacies of dance, art, and music. He is thankful to his dance teachers, from whom he learned various forms of dance and how to dance passionately.

In his message to the youth, Aditya says that they first need to decide what they want to do and seek mentorship from people related to that field. He adds that one needs to do their own research before making a career choice.

Aditya advises aspiring artists to be patient and passionate in order to excel in any artistic field. His success mantra is to "do what your heart tells you to do."
