Aditi Mathur is working as a professor in the Department of Periodontics at Pacific Dental College and Hospital and has been associated with the medical field for eleven years.

Aditi’s first and foremost rule as a professor and educator is to guide students academically and clinically and also guide post-graduates with a specialization in pedodontics.

Aditi has a BDS from Saraswati Dental College and post-graduation from Pacific Dental College. When she graduated, she was in a dilemma about whether she wanted to move to academics, clinical practice, or both simultaneously. Eventually, she came to love the teaching profession. She says that as a professor, one has the freedom to educate and engage in medical research, unlike practicing dentistry and being limited to one’s clinic.

She eventually got promoted from a part-time lecturer to a full-time professor. Consultation with patients was also provided by her as and when required. According to her, the profession of education is noble as it is partly responsible for shaping the knowledge of future dentists in the country.

Mentioning her associations with the field, she says that she is a member of the Indian Dental Association and the Indian Society of Periodontology. She is proud to be a member, as she is engaged in medical research for the benefit of society. Her acquaintances in organizations have always helped her mold herself into a leader.

According to her, when a student gets admitted into a UG medical course, that person is very new to the subject. Hence, she advises acquiring basic skills and having a basic foundation of knowledge initially. For students pursuing masters, her advice is that they must devote their time to learning new things, interact more with clients and professors regarding problems, and polish the basics learned in UG.

As for advice to the future generation of doctors, she says that one should be consistent and sincere in their efforts because competition is rising manifold and it is getting more and more difficult to be a good and qualified doctor these days.

Apart from being a doctor, she is also the mother of a child. Speaking about medical practice during the pandemic, Aditi shares that there was a shortage of medical staff to attend to the increasing number of patients. Moreover, on days of medical emergencies she had to attend, she isolated herself at home to prevent the risk of infection.

Aditi has no regrets in life, but given a chance, she would like to relive her childhood and her post-graduation time. Her favorite quote is by Walt Disney, and it says “All your dreams will come true if you pursue them”.

Lastly, she says that if one wants to achieve something, one must have the courage to persevere when the situation becomes difficult.
