Acharya Tanay Roy is the Director of Mahabodhi Prashikshan O Gabeshna Kendra in Tangla, Assam.
Recalling his childhood, Tanay says that he belonged to a middle-class family and always had an interest in performing arts since childhood. When he was nine years old, he delivered a dance performance that was admired by the former president of his university, so he chose to pursue a career in the performing arts.
Describing his struggles, Tanay says that he belongs to the LGBT community, so he faced many challenges. When his parents got to know about his sexual orientation, they stopped supporting him, and he had to survive on his own. But he didn’t give up in his life and did a job in the BPO sector to earn some money to complete his studies.
Talking about his journey, Tanay says that after losing the support of his parents and his partner, he went to Bodhgaya to become a monk but realized that there were some extinct Buddhist art forms and decided to work for them. Afterwards, he came back and started an institution by collaborating with the ICCR related to this art form, and now it is an established art form.
Accepting his mistakes, Tanay says that he made the mistake of trusting people too quickly and learned not to give so much importance to others accepting the art.
Sharing his achievements, Tanay says that he has been honored with the title of Acharya from Mahabodhi, which is the biggest accomplishment for him.
Tanay’s role models are Gautam Buddha and Rituparno Ghosh.
To beat stress, Tanay practices Vipassana.
