Abhishek Khichi is a Delhi-based Kathak Artist.
Although Abhishek was born in Rajasthan, he has lived in Delhi for a long time.
Abhishek earned his Diploma and Post-Diploma in Kathak from Kathak Kendra, Delhi. He performed around India during his five years of study, and later had the opportunity to travel to South Africa. Soon, he started traveling to different countries and cities such as China, Istanbul, Ankara, Budapest, etc.
Recalling his childhood, Abhishek says that he comes from a Kathak performing family who had been in this field for years. He says that he was a shy and introverted child in his childhood. So he always used to avoid doing anything in the field of dance. But he succumbed to his father’s desire to carry forward the family tradition and entered this field.
Describing his struggles, Abhishek says that he had seen a very difficult time in the initial days of his career when he did not have any work and it was difficult to earn his livelihood. He even worked as a dance teacher at a school. But when he started doing well in his career, his competitors tried to pull him down.
Talking about his role models, Abhishek says that after his father, he looks up to his mentor Professor Rajendra Gangani as his role model, for educating and propelling him in this field.
Regarding his achievements, Abhishek says that people from all over the world call him to choreograph their dance pieces and to see him performing Kathak, and respect him a lot, which is no less than an achievement for him. Moreover, he feels that the people who used to make fun of him today appreciate his work, which is his biggest achievement. Besides, hearing words of praise from his father and teacher is more than any achievement for him.
When asked about his pastime activities, Abhishek says that he is very fond of traveling when free. He also enjoys watching movies.
Abhishek advises the youth that it is not your age to think, but to act because you have so much energy in you that you can do whatever you want and have full power to achieve it. He advises them to make their career in the field they are passionate about and tells them to move forward with strong willpower so that no one can stop them from being successful in life.
