Abhishek Dungerwal hails from Udaipur. Currently, he is a Vice President with Barclays Bank, Pune.
Talking about his childhood, Abhishek says that he was raised in a family with minimal means. He grew up in government residential quarters. He did not have fancy stuff at his disposal growing up. However, he enjoyed mingling up with his friends and going out with them as there was no internet back then. He thinks that where he grew up and where he has reached now, has been quite a journey for him.
Abhishek shares that he was not an academically bright student. However, he managed to do his engineering from a private engineering college. After completing his engineering, he was offered a job by Cognizant. But due to the economic crisis of 2008, Cognizant delayed his joining by a year. And during that time, he joined Arcgate in Udaipur and worked there for a year. And then he joined Cognizant. Currently, he is working as a Vice President with Barclays Bank, Pune.
Talking about his achievements, Abhishek says that he still has a lot to achieve in life. However, being able to give his hundred percent in his jobs and being a go-to person for others, make him feel fulfilled.
Talking about COVID, Abhishek says that the pandemic had both positive and negative impacts on his life. It slowed his career progression as his promotion was delayed. However, during the pandemic only he got a job offer with Barclays, Pune to work as a VP there. Besides, he also got to work from his home in Udaipur which was a positive side of the pandemic for him. Further, he advises people to talk to their loved ones to help them ease the pain they went through during the pandemic and boost their morale.
His mother and wife have been his role models, Abhishek says.
Abhishek thinks that experience matters more in life than education. He says that education lays down the foundation for you but you learn more with your experience. He advises youngsters to go out in the field and gain experience by working.
According to Abhishek, leadership is not about instructing people to do things. Rather it’s about leading them with an example and closely working with them and this is what makes a successful leader.
If he could go back in time via a Time Machine, Abhishek would any day want to relive his college days as he thinks that those were the best days of his life.
In his spare time, Abhishek likes to listen to music as it helps him rejuvenate himself.
To the youth, his message is to keep their minds open and get their hands dirty with hands-on work experience. Besides, he tells them that they don’t need to know rocket science or have a fancy degree to become successful in life.
