Abhinav Trivedi is a Wildlife Photographer, Conservationist and Founder of a company called Maaavrtii that makes organic vermicompost and vermiwash.
Born in Jaipur and brought up in Jodhpur, Abhinav is currently working in Almora, Uttarakhand. He completed his schooling at Delhi Public School, Jodhpur and thereafter pursued Civil Engineering from Vyas College of Engineering and Technology. However, he always has had a strong inclination toward Nature and Wildlife and decided to take it up as his career.
His interest in Wildlife emerged from his father’s government quarters wherein he used to relish the wildlife and nature that surrounded him. Pursuing his passion further, Abhinav started applying for wildlife photography internships and started getting recognition in various magazines. His father supported his love for nature and gifted him a camera. Now it has been eight years that Abhinav has been working in this profession.
After passing out of college, Abhinav worked with PETA India for a project in Jawai Bandh to capture leopards, sloth bears and hyenas, and in making a wildlife book. While working in Jawai, Abhinav got a call from a semi-government company in Uttarakhand to help them balance the wildlife ecosystem and reduce the negative consequences of human-wildlife interaction. He helped create ponds for fisheries and vermicompost with the help of worms that also benefited the rural population.
Talking about his professional challenges, Abhinav shares that the equipment and gears of a wildlife photographer are very expensive. He adds that this field requires a lot of patience and a long wait to get that perfect shot which comes with increased costs. Abhinav says that it is equally important to have knowledge of the relevant species cycle like nesting, breeding and migration.
Talking about the pandemic, Abhinav shares that there were many wildlife photographers who got demotivated since the national parks were not operational. However, he was lucky enough not to miss those since he stayed in a remote area surrounded by wildlife. Abhinav continued to shoot during the lockdown days and remained motivated.
Abhinav shares that getting that perfect shot of any animal is a happy moment and a considerable achievement for a wildlife photographer. Another feather in the cap is when a photographer’s work starts getting recognized and garners some followers. Abhinav’s biggest achievement was when one of his pictures posted on social media got showcased by National Geographic.
Abhinav draws inspiration from Sudhir Shivaram, a well-known wildlife photographer who taught him about the intricacies of photography and its different angles. He is also grateful to his parents, sister and fiancee who supported him in his new journey.
Sharing his Success Mantra, Abhinav says that the more we practice, the more we improve. He adds that one shouldn't compare ourselves with others, rather focus on being more creative. Abhinav advises the youth to keep hustling, remain consistent and pursue what they love.
A few years down the line, Abhinav imagines himself living in an eco-friendly sustainable house in the Himalayas surrounded by dogs, nature and beautiful wildlife.
He feels that education does not help as much as knowledge does. Abhinav says that he learnt about wildlife through his experiences and not education.
In his free time, Abhinav takes good peaceful walks in the jungles and explores waterfalls and new species of animals.
If Abhinav could go back in a Time Machine, he would not have opted for Engineering but pursued Wildlife from the beginning.
