Dr. Abhijit aspired to become an orthopedic surgeon, but seeing people suffering from mental illness, he became a Mental Therapist. He urges everyone to seek help either from friends, family or professionals to keep up their mental health.

Dr. Abhijit Khanna has been working as a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist, Sexologist and De- Addiction Therapist for the past seven years. He has his own clinic in Jamnagar, by the name ‘Khanna Hospital.’ He deals with disorders that are related to sexual and psycho-sexual issues, different types of addictions and mental health problems such as anxiety issues, depression, phobias, sleep disorders, mood fluctuations and thought disorders.

Abhijit hails from Jamnagar, Gujarat. He says that he is the third generation doctor in his family. Seeing his father, he also became interested in going into the field of medicine. After 12th, he got admission in Dentistry but within a few days, he was shifted to MBBS. He says that he had a fascination for surgery since childhood, but seeing a void in the field of mental health, he stepped into it.

Abhijit says that as a kid, he was a good swimmer and had represented his school at state and national levels. Also, he was not only the topper of his class but he was good at sports too. He has been a University Footballer during his college days. In that too, he went far ahead and won many medals in his name. He outperformed everyone in literature as well.

When asked about his role models, Abhijit says that he considers his mother, father and his grandfather as his role models for the hard work and dedication that they practiced to build themselves.

Talking about struggles, Abhijit says he feels that he had to face more challenges as a mental therapist than he would have faced as a surgeon. It is because even today people are unaware of how to deal with mental health issues properly and they feel afraid to seek any professional help due to the misconceptions prevailing in the society. People are also ignorant, when it comes to mental health and they prefer to go to faith healers.

Regarding his mistakes, Abhijit says he considers his intolerant and short tempered behavior as a mistake, which he changed over time. Apart from this, he kept on learning from other small mistakes that he made and kept moving forward.

In his spare time, Abhijit loves watching movies and web series. Besides this, he enjoys spending time with his pet dog, running, driving and listening to music. Sometimes he even fulfills his hobby of swimming.

Abhijit advises all the aspiring doctors to be good at their academics and keep their concepts clear. Further, he suggests them to do proper diagnosis of any case before reaching a conclusion and consider taking help of their seniors and mentors, if needed. He advises them to have a different approach with different individuals for their different problems and don’t generalize them. So he tells them to work ethically in order to sustain in this field for a longer time and eventually make good money out of it.
