After being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, Aarti's life underwent a complete transformation. Initially unaware of the effects of the condition, she gradually learned to accept it and adapt to her new reality. She firmly believes that self-love is the ultimate remedy for overcoming life's challenges.

Aarti Vishal Mittal is a brave warrior battling Multiple Sclerosis. She is also a committee member of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI), Hyderabad Chapter, co-founded by Meena Gupta. The society endeavours to raise awareness about the disease and build a supportive community for those affected by the condition.

Born in Roorkee, Aarti grew up and completed her education in Kolar Gold Fields, Karnataka. As a cheerful and sociable child, she fondly recalls her vibrant childhood, filled with the affection of her parents. After completing her education, she started working and was really enjoying learning new things every day. Soon, she got married. Her life took a drastic turn when she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis shortly after her marriage, which changed her life completely.

Aarti explains that Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune condition impacting the central nervous system. It occurs in visible forms, in which one goes on complete bed rest and wheelchair dependency, or in non-visible forms, allowing talking and walking. She shares that her symptoms include fatigue and intense burning sensations. Though the condition is incurable, she has learned to live happily with her condition.

After joining the Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI), Aarti received an MS identity card, which became her lifeline. During a trip, when her condition worsened, she couldn't speak, but showing the card enabled immediate treatment from the doctor. She shares that MSSI helps in embracing multiple sclerosis, offering guidance on diet, meditation, and on overall lifestyle for a peaceful life.

Being a part of the MSSI for 16 years, she shares that the society organises physiotherapy workshops, doctor's meetings, zoom calls, and connects all the members through recreational activities. Even during the COVID lockdown, they held online doctor sessions, ensuring everyone remained engaged. She appreciates MSSI for its comprehensive support and for uniting individuals facing similar challenges.

Sharing about her journey, she says that initially she was in denial after her MS diagnosis. However, she received excellent care from her doctor and crucial support from her family. She accepts that joining the MSSI transformed her life, enabling self-awareness and empowering her to help others with multiple sclerosis in improving their lives.

Aarti advises those with MS to stay optimistic, love themselves, and embrace their identity as warriors capable of battling the condition. She emphasises self-acceptance and encourages individuals to indulge in activities they enjoy, whether it's dressing up, caring for loved ones, or meditation.

She shares a message of unity for fellow MS warriors: "Together, we can, we are, and we will manage our lives most beautifully."
