A media professional and a single parent, Aakanksha overcame hardships in her personal life to create a future for herself. She says that constant exploring is the key to success and one should keep trying to get better at their skills in life.

Aakanksha Saxena is a Podcaster, YouTuber and Radio Jockey.

Aakanksha hails from Jaipur but is currently living in Bangalore. She worked for about twelve years in Jaipur as a Radio Jockey.  For five years, she worked as RJ Mrs. Sharma. She has also worked as an Anchor-Producer for Zee TV in Delhi. Currently, she is working as a Podcast Head for a Singapore-Mumbai based company and is also a YouTuber and a Kathak student.

When asked about her childhood, Aakanksha says that both her parents were in government jobs and practiced equality to the core. She was always taught to be financially independent and to give the utmost importance to her career.

Aakanksha says that she took a degree in Fashion Design but always had an interest in the media field. She feels that when the radio revolution happened, she became part of the first generation of radio jockeys.

Talking about her journey, Aakanksha says that she had been an outgoing person from the very beginning. Her mother got her enrolled in theater classes at Jawahar Kala Kendra, and she learned skills like public speaking there. She also had an interest in Kathak. Aakanksha says that when radio came, she joined that field and did it for around twelve years. Experiencing stangnancy, she shifted to television but found it too demanding. After that, she shifted to Bangalore, joined Fever 101 FM and became a part of their night show.

Aakanksha says that she had to go through a troubled marriage. She got divorced and is a single mother now. She feels that coming out of that marriage and starting a new life was quite tough for her. Then came the COVID pandemic, during which she lost her job but she  started freelancing. Working independently made her realize her potential, and she started her own Youtube channel, ‘Recreate with me’ and received a silver YouTube plate in just four months by accumulating hundred thousand followers.

On being asked about her mistakes, Aakanksha says that, though it was not a mistake, she got married too early, at the age of twenty-two. However, she thinks what she went through  made her who she is today—a strong single parent woman. Aakanksha also feels that, as teenagers, we often fail to understand the importance of time and how utilizing every hour of the day is  so important for achieving success in life. She works two jobs to provide the right kind of life for her daughter and also goes to the gym to keep healthy. She feels that college-going students should understand the privileges they have and utilize every hour of their day.

Talking about her role models, Aakanksha says that her parents are her ultimate role models and have affected her thought process and values a lot. Her mother was a teacher and taught her hard work and honesty in life. Her father also broke many stereotypes and provided her with important life lessons.

Sharing her life mantra, Aakanksha says she feels that the work we do creates energy for us.

Advising the youth, Aakanksha says that new aspirants should understand that radio is a good field but is nearing saturation at this point and does not have many jobs. However, those who really want to get into this field should improve their language skills by reading and speaking aloud. Secondly, they should have good knowledge of current affairs and create their profile on LinkedIn. Sending CVs to Radio HRMs can land one a job if lucky, or a young college and school passout can always try to get internships as well. Aakanksha says that they can also take a course in creative writing and get a job in that field as well. She feels that today’s youth have this powerful tool of social media at their disposal and should use it effectively to create a brand for themselves.
